Zweigelt

light and elegant reds with flavors of cherries

Zweigelt

Zweigelt is a fairly "new" red grape that was developed by Dr. Fritz Zweigelt of Austria in 1922. The grape is a cross of Blaufrankisch (Limberger) and St. Laurent, and is widely planted in Austria. The vine has late bud break and is early ripening, which should be very helpful in Eagle Valley. Zweigelt can create light, elegant red wines with flavors of cherry, white pepper, and flowers. We like it a lot (as do the Austrians). Now, if it just had a better name!
