Eagle Valley, Eastern Oregon

State of Oregon Hell's Canyon Area

Two Joseph's Vineyard is located in Eagle Valley, Baker County, Oregon. This small, fertile valley is located near the confluence of the Powder and Snake Rivers, and is not far from Hell's Canyon, the deepest gorge in North America. Eagle Valley can be reached by travelling east from Baker City (I-84, exit 302) on OR-86 for 39 miles. This route takes you past the National Historic Oregon Trail Intrepretive Center, then across a broad expanse of sagebrush with spectacular views of the Wallowa/Eagle Cap mountains, and finally through the twisting, narrow canyon carved by the Powder River. The rough country suddenly opens up, and you've arrived at an oasis of agricultural activity. If you like boating or fishing or sight-seeing on the Snake River, Hewett/Holcomb County Park has boat ramps on Brownlee Reservoir. OR, you could drive up into the mountains to hike the high country or pan for gold.

The Small Towns of Richland, Newbridge and Halfway

The small town of Richland, one mile up the road, is a real place for working people. It offers a well stocked feed mill & hardware store, The Hitching Post general store, a post office, two restaurants including Annie's Cafe for outstanding burgers and shakes, a gas station, motel, cemetery, quite a good number of churches, and an elementary school. Travel a few miles up Eagle Creek to find the crossroads of Newbridge and the Eagle Creek Orchard, famous for organic peaches and apricots.

The town of Halfway lies in Pine Valley, which is just 13 miles over the hill. Another breathtakingly beautiful valley, this one is painted from an entirely different palette. Instead of the purples, blues and mauves of Eagle Valley, Pine Valley's foothills are timbered and green. Halfway has several restaurants, a grocery store, a webcam, the Pine Eagle High School, Rodeo Grounds, a motel, several B&Bs, a bank, and an excellent regional newspaper, the Hells Canyon Journal.
